| "Cooking With
Less Fat" How do I cook with less fat?
There are a lot of ways to cook with less
fat... Start by cutting Saturated fat & Cholesterol in foods as well as
in cooking. This can be done without cutting taste, too!
Below are a few suggestions:
- Trim all visible fat from meats
Buy extra-lean ground beef and pork -
remove skin from chicken
Grill, bake or broil meats
Use fresh herbs, and seasonings
in place of fat
De-fat stock for soups, stews and gravy
If a recipe calls for 1 large egg- use
2 egg whites, or an egg substitute
Applesauce, mashed banana or plain
yogurt could be used in place of oil in baking cakes or muffins
Steam or grill Vegetables
Try
a combination of both Fat-Free and 2% reduced fat cheese in
recipes that call for cheese.
Use unsaturated oils such as Olive oil
and Canola oil
Substitute regular mayonnaise with
Fat-Free or light, and you could use a combination of both if you
don't want to go with just Fat-Free.
