Q: What is the difference between
"Good" and "Bad" Cholesterol?
A: HDL - Good Cholesterol - Higher the
level the better
LDL - Bad Cholesterol - Lower the level the better
These two blood levels - HDL and
LDL are two of
the cholesterol levels that most of us are familiar with, and it is probably due
to the referencing of "Good" and "bad". HDL and LDL are both
generally measured at the same time, by a blood test. Fasting usually is
required after midnight, or 8-12 hours before testing, check with the hospital
or clinic that is drawing the blood, or from who ordered the test for you to get
the answer if you should or not fast, and for how long.
HDL - means high-density lipoprotein
LDL - means low-density lipoprotein
A total blood Cholesterol level
of 200 mg/dl or greater, could increase your risk of heart disease, obesity and
some types of cancer.
