| Sugar Cookies- Christmas Cut-Out Cookies | ||||
| Ingredients: | ||||
| 1 cup vegetable shortening
1/2 cup granulated sugar 2 egg whites 1-tsp. fresh lemon juice or lemon extract 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder 3/4 tsp. salt |
||||
| Directions | ||||
| Mix flour, baking powder and
salt. Set aside. Cream shortening and sugar. Beat egg, add. Stir in lemon
juice. Mix well. Shape into 2 balls, wrap in waxed paper. Chill until firm.
Flour wax paper; roll out one ball at a time and use cookie cutter, i.e.,
Christmas tree, star, etc. to make your Christmas cookie cutouts. Spray
baking sheet with non-fat cooking spray, place cutouts on baking sheet.
Brush with non-fat milk and sprinkle colored sugar on the top.
Bake for about 6 minutes, at 400 degrees or until cookies are done. Makes about 2 doz. cookies. These make excellent Christmas cookies; you could also frost with a confectioner’s sugar frosting adding food coloring to color the frosting. Sprinkle colored sugar on the top of the frosted cookies. You could slice the cookie dough 1/8' thick and bake without using cookie cutters. Brushing with milk, and sprinkling with colored sugar just as you would if you made cookie cutouts. |
